In an era of “Content” that is by and large digital and experienced by the public via algorithmic distribution, and at a time when we are all wrestling with the question of where AI fits in the world of human creativity, this docu-series will explore the more “offline”, tangible and distinctly human creations rendered by “ordinary” people; people who have a “real” job but who find a greater purpose in a side of themselves largely hidden from their peers.
These are people who believe—as Megan Hart says in the pilot episode— “pointless things are worth doing.” And their creations and passions will astound you.
In the pilot episode (The Elephant in the Driveway), a middle school English teacher by day, Megan Hart one morning decides to begin making a giant cyclops elephant puppet. As her whimsy grows into an obsession and expenses spiral, her daughter, new husband, and neighbors can't help but wonder; what is this all for?
Megan's story before the elephant was one of unhappy relationships, an unfulfilling career, and a history of hyper-fixation and obsessive compulsive behaviors. Through her self-described "pointless" elephant project, and with the support of a new partner that understands her complexities, Megan wrestles with those three demons to emerge a more complete person than she was before.
The Elephant In The Driveway is a love story about a filmmaker and his complicated wife who for 6 weeks lives by one guiding principle: sometimes "pointless" things are worth doing.
